Efforts will be made that rent is either delayed or reduced in as many cases as possible.The mortgage crisis has forced many people out of their homes because they simply could not afford to make the repayments. Whether it’s their fault or not is a debatable issue, but one thing is for sure that these people have to suffer a lot. This project will lend a helping hand to such people in the New York area.
It is different from other such programs. Most of such programs are meant for extremely poor people, who may have to live in a single room along with their relatives and even pets. This program lays focus only on the New York area.
Actually, the housing problem has worsened because people are holding onto their properties. No body is in a mood to sell because of the drastic fall in the prices. Only those people who are in dire need of money are selling their property. The plight of homeless people has worsened because of this fact. There are simply no houses available on rent.
This is a government initiative to intervene in the matter and make things affordable for the common man. Similarly, some people own property but are on the verge of bankruptcy because they are burdened by the repayments. Such people also come under the purview of this program. Their debt may be lowered on compassionate grounds or with the help of certain other viable formulae. So, even if you are not below poverty line, you have been acknowledged by the government as fit cases for remedial measures.
