Effective communication is indispensable for the success of any business. Communication takes place when one person transfers information and thoughts to another person. An effective communication is the one in which recipient of the message is not a passive listener but his reactions or responses are also involved in it.
It is a two way process. It may not be possible to achieve ideal communication but to diminish barriers to communication some measures should be applied.
The very first thing, which should be kept in mind, is that the message should be adequate and fitting to the purpose of communication. It is very essential to known the listeners for whom the message is intended. The message to be conveyed must be totally clear in the mind of communicator because if you do not comprehend a thought you can never communicate it to someone in a proper way.

The second point is that the organizational structure must be sound and apposite to the need of the business. Attempts must be made to cut down the distance to be traveled for conveying information. Thirdly, the receiver must be a good listener. Superiors should develop the habit of patient listening and avoid untimely assessment of the message from their subordinates. This will promote free flow of upward communication.
Then, it should be kept in mind that the message to be communicated should be so designed as to stimulate the receiver. His behavior should be influenced so that he can take the desired action. A sense of common faith and confidence must be generated to uphold free flow of communication.
The credibility gap should also be avoided. Management must make it certain that their actions and deeds are in conformity with their communication. Gossip or the informal channels of communication help to make the managerial decisions better.
