Is There Any Social Responsibility Of Business?
“It is important that a business should be taken out as per the existing social needs. The present business activities are different from the older times. Today, business is more society oriented”
The main aim of any business is to earn profit. The word business literally means a state of being busy. Ever person is engaged with some kind of occupation and the primary aim of all is to earn their livelihood while doing some work. But this is only an individual aspect of business. We can also say that business is an important part and parcel of the society because it is only possible in a society.
It is important that a business should be taken out as per the existing social needs. The present business activities are different from the older times. Today business is more society oriented. Therefore, it is imperative that the businessmen of today must bear some social responsibilities also. Business should ensure the supply of goods to meet the requirements of the society.
The business should estimate the total demands and adjust the production accordingly. It is the duty of the government also that it should bring about some kind of co-ordination in the business processes and the needs of the society. This is done through various licensing laws. The supply of quality goods and services to the costumers at reasonable prices is the responsibility of the business.
The business should aim at consumer’s satisfaction. The supply of adulterated, poor quality, unusable or harmful goods is against business ethics. It is very unfortunate but true that in the present scarcity-ridden period, it is the consumers who have to bear the brunt. They are supplied poor quality goods at higher rates and the goods are still not available in abundance. Businessmen should keep in mind that a business venture cannot thrive and progress if it deliberately and consistently ignores the needs and rights of the consumers.
It is the duty of the business to study the wants and needs of the consumers. Business should cooperate with the government to achieve the socialistic pattern of the society. Any sector, whether public, private or mixed must conform to some kind of rules. It’s better to have well formulated laws in this connection. The government has devised the rules both for public and private sectors. The government has fixed priorities for the execution of major policies for the development of the nation.
It is not uncommon on the part of businessmen to adopt tactics and strategies that go counter to the declared policies of the government. The businessmen also try to evade taxes. All this leads to a clash between the business community and the government.
Therefore, the businessmen should develop an optimistic outlook so that the nation can also progress as a whole. The business community should adopt a positive approach towards policies of the government and should help it in solving national problems.
