The principles of management are universally applicable to all kinds of organizations like educational institutions, hospitals, government and business enterprises etc. Similarly every level within an organization can take tremendous advantage from these principles.
However, there are some management experts who disagree with the universality of management principles. They are of the view that the aims of a particular organization determine the kind of management.
Moreover, the application of the management principles and their effectiveness depends upon the philosophy of the organization and the socio- cultural background of the people. The management principles, which are applied successful in industrial countries, may not be necessarily useful for developing countries because of the difference in objectives, philosophy and work culture of the organizations.
Flexibility is the hallmark of these principles. These can be easily modified and changed with the changing environment of an organization. The principles, which were suitable at one time, may not be suitable at every juncture. Similarly, the principles, which produce concrete results, may also vary with locale and other conditions in one particular country.
So the principle of flexibility is followed by all the organizations that desire to survive. The principles of management are relative, not absolute. The environment of two organizations may not be alike, just as the atmosphere of two families is never alike.
Therefore, some adjustments in the management principles have to be made according to situation and time. Management is a social science and involves direction of human behavior in the enterprise. Control of human behavior is also an important aim of these principles. This is done so that all the personnel are able to put in their best efforts for the development of an enterprise.
A cause and effect relationship exists in the management principles. It shows that what will be the effect of certain decisions. For example, the principle of division of labor leads to specialization, which increases the efficiency of individual employees. So, division of labor is a cause and specialization in efficiency is an effect.
