Norfolk Welcomes Art Enthusiasts to Annual Virginia Arts Festival
“Norfolk welcomes visitors to the Annual Virginia Arts Festival which runs from April 30, 2010 through May 30, 2010.”
The 14th Annual Virginia Arts Festival is coming to Norfolk April 30 through May 30, 2010 with performances including the Virginia International Tattoo, Shakespeare sketches, and a Rock Symphony.
Established in 1997 and held annually each spring, the Virginia Arts Festival runs for six weeks and features many exciting events held in 10 different host cities throughout Virginia, including Norfolk. The Virginia Arts Festival is run by a non-profit organization that brings together hundreds of internationally-acclaimed artists from all over the world to perform with Virginia’s most accomplished professional arts troupes, offering audiences stunning displays of live music, dance, and theatre.
Many of the festival’s most thrilling events will be hosted by the historic port city of Norfolk. The cornerstone of the annual Norfolk Arts Festival is the Virginia International Tattoo. The tattoos are ceremonial performances of military music steeped in European traditions that date back to the 17th century and express inspiring themes of honor and patriotism. The Virginia International Tattoo features 800 entertainers from around the world, including marching bands playing massed pipes and drums, Scottish dancers, gymnasts, drill teams and choirs. The 2010 Virginia International Tattoo will be held at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, from April 30 through May 2.
Another highlight of the 2010 Norfolk Arts Festival is the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, held at Norfolk’s Wells Theatre. This famous three-man-troupe combines all 37 Shakespeare plays into a series of short, sharp comedic sketches in a 97 minute performance.
For fans of classic rock, Music of Queen: A Rock Symphony will be held at Norfolk’s Chrysler Hall. The stunning show features a 50-piece orchestra, rock band, and Vegas star Brody Dolyniuk paying tribute to Queen's biggest hits.
Every year, the Norfolk Arts Festival attracts visitors from around the world. The Norfolk Waterside Marriott offers its guests a prime location, just minutes from the festival’s many events in downtown Norfolk.
