Terrorism in Pakistan

It was the 1980’s that saw the beginning of terrorism in Pakistan. The main reason was the Soviet-Afghan war. There are proofs that people at high places in Pakistan’s Military as well as the ISI (Interservices Intelligence) not only commiserate with the terrorists but help them also in furthering their nefarious activities.
The main motive of these terrorists is to create disturbance in the neighbouring countries especially India as they are funded for this purpose only. USA and Saudi Arabia are the major funding agencies.
All are in win-win situation except the victim countries like India and Afghanistan. Pakistani political leaders want to create disturbance in the sub-continent especially on the issue of Kashmir. This issue is a big vote bank for them. Old issues are deliberately brought into focus again and again, so that people forget the problems of the day and cast their votes on emotional grounds.
America also does not want the area to be peaceful for its own vested interests. Peace would mean a slowdown in the arm’s race and that would be a big financial loss to the US as it is a major supplier of weapons to both India and Pakistan and many other countries.
Saudi Arabia, the Taliban and the jihadis (mujahideens) also benefit from this blood shed because they are seen as holy warriors who are on the path of jihad. They get the importance they crave for and by virtue of this, hold positions of power and respect in the Islamic world.
But countless, innocent people who have to bear the brunt of this devilish scenario are at a total loss. Thousands and thousands of people have lost their lives. Countless families have been ruined. Still more have been uprooted from their mother land Kashmir. And all this in the name of God.
Not all the Pakistani’s support terrorism. It is a strategy chalked out by those in power. But now for various reasons Pakistan has started supporting the war on terrorism. One reason is pressure from US who also has become victim of this terror. It has fell in its own trap.
Another reason is that even Pakistan has come to realize that in the emerging global order fundamentalism will not stay for a long time. Let’s keep our fingers crossed and wait for the day when peace will prevail over this land of saints.
