Good leadership leads the group to a higher level of performance through its persistent efforts. It is not always possible to achieve results with force or solely with the exercise of authority. Leadership acts as an aid to authority by influencing, inspiring and initiating actions. Leadership plays a pivotal role at all levels of management because in the want of effective leadership management cannot stands anywhere and can collapse like a fragile and unstable house of cards.
No organisationional structure can provide all types of relationships and people with everything that they may want. Common interests may work beyond the confines of formal relationships. Such informal relationships are more effective in controlling and regulating the behavior of the individuals to achieve the enterprise goals. Effective leadership increases the understanding between subordinates and administration and promotes collaboration among them.
The Leader should develop voluntary assistance from his assistants by consulting the group in framing the policies and the line of action and in initiating any fundamental changes in the primary structure of the task. Leadership ought to also use some power whenever necessary, to implement the policies. The leader should give understandable, all-encompassing and lucid instructions to his subordinates.
