A business enterprise basically consists of people that are organized under single or plural leadership to meet social needs. A business has many organic objectives like survival, growth, reputation etc. It should ensure that only those activities are taken up which are beneficial to the society.
It should try to create demand for its products so that it is able to produce profit. Various factors of production are paid out of profits. A losing concern cannot survive for a long. In this way, a business enterprise can be compared to human anatomy.
As a human body grows through various stages, that is, from infancy to childhood, from childhood to adolescence, from adolescence to adulthood and from adulthood to maturity, a business unit also passes through various phases during its existence.
A business unit tries to utilize its business resources properly so that it is able to plough back its profits for further expansion and diversification. A stagnant business is not able to face changing economic, political and social environment.
Every business house aims at its proper growth. A number of plans and policies are framed to facilitate future growth of every unit. A business enterprise always aims to get recognition from those with whom it deals.
This is possible only if it serves them well. It should have good rapport with the suppliers and dealers by keeping proper schedule of payment and supply of goods. The consumers should be supplied good quality products at reasonable prices.
All these acts earn goodwill for the enterprise and its prestige enhances tremendously with the passage of time. A properly run unit gradually becomes indispensable for various sections of society. It is here that social responsibility of a big business venture assumes great importance.
Thousands and thousands of families get associated with it and it in itself become like a big town. Naturally, the head of this town cannot and should not shy away from his social responsibility. This responsibility is in detached from the urge of obtaining relentless profit.
