What Is Meant By Management of Profession?
“A business can progress only if its management knows and appreciates the codified principles of the management. Like any other profession, management also has its own body of systematized knowledge, which contains different principles and techniques.”
Management has an organized body of knowledge built up by management practitioners, thinkers and philosophers over a period of years. Modern management has a technique quite apart from the technology of the particular work concerned.
A business can progress only if its management knows and appreciates the codified principles of the management. Like any other profession, management also has its own body of systematized knowledge, which contains the principles and techniques, which are employed by business as well as government.
Management science today is fully equipped with formalized methods of acquiring the body of knowledge pertaining to management theory and philosophy. To provide management education and training, there are a large number of formal institutes in different countries.
Several tools of management like business psychology, business law, business statistics, business economics, data processing operation research, management and cost accounting etc. have been developed. Now a days business houses prefers to employee those managerial personnel who have obtained proper education in business administration from some recognized institute.
Specialized business management associations are being set up in most of the countries to regulate the behavior of the members and to create a code of conduct for guiding the activities of the profession.
They promote and build up the bright public image of management as a profession. Members of a profession have to abide by the code of conduct, which provides norms of honesty, integrity and professional morality.
In the old professions such as law and medicine, there exists standard code of conduct but in the sphere of management, there is lack of standard and uniform code of conduct. There are no restrictions or licensing on entry to the management profession.
So, we cannot say that management is a profession in itself but it can be said without any kind of doubt that management is fast emerging as a separate function and ownership is no longer the sole route to a career in management.
