They are basically voluntary associations of the farmers that are formed so that all the member farmers can partake of the benefits of large-scale farming. Many countries, especially the developing and the underdeveloped ones, are not alien to their benefits.
In large scale farming, cultivation is done on scientific lines and farmers have to bear less operating costs. In this way, they are able to save some of their hard earned money that can be utilized for other family purposes like the education of their children etc.
Moreover, in this way production is also increased and farmers are able to quicken their pace towards achieving a respectable standard of living. Small farmers are not able to use enhanced technology because of lack of resources and due to the small size of their holdings.

Tenant farming societies are formed to help tenants. The societies obtain land on lease and on free hold basis as well. Then the land is distributed to the members for self-sufficient cultivation. The societies also arrange for a variety of prerequisites like seeds, fertilizers, insecticides etc.
In this way the tenant farmers are saved from the clutches of moneylenders and usurers. They gradually reach a position where they can boast of their own land.
